All Aboard!

This is my first cruise ever and Norwegian Cruise Line was a perfect choice for our vacation experience-and this is only day 1.

As the first guest blogger for Norwegian Cruise Line, I’m going to try to capture the feelings and the day-to-day experiences of what it’s like to be on the Breakaway- Norwegian’s newest (and largest) boat.

From the time we boarded the ship, my wife and I could sense that the staff and team of over 1500 stewards have the interest of every guest in mind. The smiles of each crew member and the flawless attention to detail were remarkable. As soon as we walked in our room, we were greeted with a care package from the crew and little something my sister (who was on last week’s cruise) left for us.

Our rooms are a bit quaint but decks 15-17 surely make up for the ‘tight’ quarters. With 3 water slides which we haven’t tried yet, a ropes course that looks amazing, I’m not sure how much time we’ll be spending in our room.

Since we boarded relatively early, we enjoyed some delicious ice cream as we waited for the rest of the nearly 5,000 other guest to arrive. After our short treat, we walked around the ship to see the ‘city on water’. And, forty five minutes later, we hadn’t even seen everything. The sheer size of the cruise boat and the vast walkways were simply impressive.

As the boat backed out of NY Harbor, we headed towards the front-most point of the boat to enjoy the spectacular panoramic views of the New York City skyline. Seeing Lady Liberty and The Freedom Tower in all of their glory were just breathtaking.

As we crossed under the Verrazano bridge, we decided that it was time to test out the gym. As a marathon runner, and for anyone who enjoys a good workout, there’s nothing like running facing the open waters of the Atlantic to inspire you. Besides, working out early only means that there’s more time to enjoy the delicious meals offered throughout the Breakaway.

As we enjoyed a leisurely dinner, we were able to watch the sun set. What a treat.

After dinner, we enjoyed a small ‘night cap’ that was topped off with the high-action show “Burn the Floor'” The powerful beats woke up the audience and offered a great ending to the first night.

Stay tuned for Day 2.

  1. We LOVE NCL! It’s our first choice when we book cruises. Freestyle dining is definitely our speed. And we’ve always been more than pleased with the kosher food options on board. Enjoy your cruise! Looking forward to your updates!
